How is the waste handled?

All rubbish is returned to New Zealand. First it is sorted into recyclables and non-recyclables, then packaged and returned in containers for disposal in New Zealand. The base sewerage is treated through the Scott Base wastewater treatment plant, where the clean water is returned to the sea and all the solids are packaged for return to New Zealand.
